Update Thursday 21st May

Dear families,

Hopefully you are all making the most of the lovely sunshine as much as is allowed and everyone is staying well.  Staff have enjoyed speaking with parents and children this week when we have been making our phone calls.  It’s great that so many families are making such an effort with their learning at home – it really will help your children to stay on track whilst they are away from school.

Some key points to share from latest guidance.

More detailed information will be shared with you next week.  What we know so far:

It is Bank Holiday on Monday and also half term week – the school will have staff available for enquiries if needed.

School is CLOSED to ALL children on Monday 1st June – this is to allow all staff to return and learn about the changes we have had to make in school to be able to open safely.

Tuesday 2nd June is, provisionally, when the school will open to pupils in Reception, Year 1 and Year 6.  Essential keyworker pupils will still also have a place.

Pupils will be in class groups of no more than 15 children.  They will stay with just this group of children throughout the school day, having minimal contact with the other groups of children in school.  They will have the same staff member for the week where possible, which won’t necessarily be their usual class teacher.

To minimise contact between groups of children, start times, break times, lunch times and collection times will be staggered.

We will make contact with parents next week to inform you of which start time and collection time you have been allocated – the times being, 8.40 drop off with a 2.50 collection, 8.50 drop off with a 3pm collection and a 9am drop off with a 3.10 collection.  These times will be specific to each year group and cannot be changed.

As pupil numbers can potentially increase to over 130, the decision has been made by the Academy Trust that their schools, including Woodlands will finish after lunchtime on a Wednesday afternoon.  Closing on a Wednesday afternoon allows for a deep clean to take place without pupils being on site. Pupils will need to be collected at staggered times, again, from 1pm.  We will inform you of this in more detail next week.

All guidelines regarding handwashing, sanitising, cleaning and, social distancing where able and appropriate, will be followed by all pupils and staff within school.

More information will be shared next week.  We understand that it may be a decision made anxiously to allow your child to return to school.  Please be reassured that all staff will do everything that we can to keep our children safe and well, whilst keeping ourselves safe and well too.  All of the changes that have to be made to school and the school day will be for the benefit of the children at this difficult time.  We will do everything possible to make our school an engaging, nurturing and safe environment for our children to return to.  Please understand that some things are out of our control.

With kind regards,

Mr Baker
