Learning

Emperors and Empires

For our final history topic, Birch will be learning about the Roman era and the invasion of Britain. We will explore the timeline of Roman history and the impact this had on Britain. As we go further into the topic, we will develop our knowledge of what life was like as a Roman, how Rome was ruled and the emperors who ruled. Your child will learn about the Roman army and get to practice some of the battle formations, using teamwork to become a strong, might army! Once we have learned about the Romans and their lives, invasions and rules, we will learn about Boudicca and her rebellion against the Romans.

Science -Plant Nutrition and Reproduction

In the Plant Nutrition and Reproduction project, your child will learn to link plant structure to function and identify plant parts associated with water transport and reproduction. They will build on prior learning, naming and describing the function of different parts of flowering plants, including the roots, stems, leaves and flowers. Your child will observe fibrous roots and taproots and investigate how water and nutrients are transported in plants. Your child will create the life cycle of a flowering plant and learn the parts and functions of flower parts. They will ask scientific questions about pollination and research to find the answers. They will learn about seed formation and dispersal and identify how the structure of seeds aid dispersal.

PE Kit

PE kits consists of a white top, dark shorts/skirt, pumps/trainers, dark jumper and dark jogging bottoms, not leggings. Please ensure that your child has a comfortable spare pair of shoes for outdoor PE (as their others may be muddy or wet from being outside). If your child has their ears pierced, please provide tape or ensure they can remove their own earrings. Pupils should come to school wearing their PE kit on PE days.

Our PE Days are Thursday (outdoor) and Friday (indoor).

Art - Mosaics
This project teaches children about the history of mosaics, before focusing on the colours, patterns and themes found in Roman mosaic. The children learn techniques to help them design and make a mosaic border tile.
