Year 2 Home Learning

Below are many learning activities with opportunity for online learning as well as a printable booklet (please choose what is best suitable for you). We suggest working from activity 1 and so on. The KS1 team would like to thank all parents for your continued support in home learning, please do what you can.

Our new topic is ‘Wiggle and Crawl’.

Maths

Length, capacity/volume, temperature, and coin recognition. Where possible, it will be great to do some practical measuring if you have the resources/time to do so at home.

English SPaG

For phonics, please access ‘phonics play’ where all activities are currently offered completely free. The children are familiar with phonics play and its format.

Activity 1: Education City Using conjunctions ‘and’ ‘if’ ‘but’

Activity 2:

Education City Using expanded noun  phrases

Activity 3:

Education City Spelling by segmenting words

Activity 4:

Education City Sentence form: Create statements, exclamations, commands and questions and see how word order and punctuation can change the sentence form

Activity 5:

Twinkl Commands- Select the correct verbs for the sentences.

English Writing:

Activity 1: Using your phonics knowledge write the names of as insects as you can.

Activity 2: Choose three of your favourite insects and write some descriptive sentences about them.

Activity 3: Design your own insect and write sentences to describe it.

Activity 4: Design the habitat that it lives it. Write sentences to describe the habia below. 

Activity 5: Create your own leaflet about the ugly bug ball! Where will it be? Who can go? Describe which bugs will be there and what will happen at the ball! Remember a ball is like a party... for ugly bugs… (minibeasts!) You might want to draw pictures to match!

BBC Bitesize BBC online lesson: explore a new book. Can you order events in the story and explain your opinion of the book?

Topic

Can I study my local area and identify key human features? Take a walk with a family member (an adult) and see what human features you see on your walk (this means they are made by humans).

Can you see any of these features?

Lampposts, wall, fence, park, canal, house, shop, hotel, bridge, path.

List what you see and draw a picture to represent your walk when you return!

Art

The National Academy Online lesson: To learn about an artist and go on a texture hunt around your home! You will need a pencil and paper.

PE

Tennis – team games - Hitting a ball back and forth, Gymnastics - Understand how to find space when travelling and methods of travelling creatively, add basic rolls into a solo, use shape and balances.

Music

BBC Teach activities – This game had 3 sections: listen and layer, feel the beat and make some noise. Over 2 weeks, children could choose a different activity, and follow the instructions to learn about the different areas of music.
