In preparation for the return to school here is a reminder of some of the important days and activities during our week.
In Redwood, we will have PE on a Monday and a Thursday this term. Please make sure that you bring your full PE kit into school this week, we will keep them here for the half term, unless they need to be sent back home to be cleaned.
Please make sure you have the following items of clothing:
A white top, dark shorts, trainers, dark jumper, dark jogging bottoms. If your child has their ears pierced, please provide some tape to cover them or ensure they can remove their own earrings. Long hair must be tied up during PE lessons.
Although we are not able to change fully for PE we do still encourage all children to bring their kit as it might be needed as a change of clothes. We also suggest that girls do not wear skirts or dresses on PE days as they may find these less comfortable than trousers and more restrictive.
We will be sending a home learning booklet home each half term, containing spelling, punctuation and grammar (SPAG) practice, weekly spellings and times tables practice questions plus additional homework activities. Please hand this into us on a Wednesday and we will return it to you on a Friday.
In Year 5/6, we will test our spellings on Wednesdays. New spellings will be shared with the children on a Wednesday after the previous spelling test has taken place. There will be a section in the home learning booklet to practise the weekly spellings in.
Reading books will be changed weekly (Mondays). Please support your child with developing their reading skills by reading with them on a regular basis; this will really help to reinforce the reading skills we will be focusing on in school. The children will receive team point rewards for the reading they complete at home. When you record your read don't forget to add a # to be in the running for a Frappe Friday treat. To # your read all you need to do is combine the name of a coffee shop drink with the place you read, for example #caramellattesofa and write it in your diary. When we check the diaries on a Friday all the children with three or more # will be put into a draw to get the chance of receiving juice and biscuits during Guided Reading. Happy hash-tagging.
You can also log into the Oxford Owls website and access a huge selection of wonderful books.
Further school information can be found on our school website; please feel free to contact us if you have any questions.
Thank you for your continued support,
